For four months now, we have been using a smart solution in the multifunctional building that not only saves energy, but also significantly reduces our CO₂ emissions. A 6.5 kWh heating element now ensures that the water for all areas is efficiently heated to 45 degrees.
This retrofit was introduced to further increase the self-consumption of our solar power. And the results are impressive: While we still needed 550 m³ of gas to heat water last year, we have reduced our gas consumption to just a fifth of this figure thanks to the heating rod. This not only means a considerable saving in fossil fuels, but also a significant reduction in our CO₂ emissions.
The heating element is also controlled: at peak times – especially before the shower times at 12.30 pm, 3.15 pm and 8.15 pm – it is activated in good time to ensure the optimum shower temperature at all times.
Overall, our own consumption of the electricity we produce is now an impressive 59.2%. This small, inconspicuous measure therefore has a major impact on our energy efficiency and sustainability – another step towards more environmentally friendly production at Ursa-Chemie.
