RSPO-certified: Responsibility in the palm oil supply chain

RSPO-certified: Responsibility in the palm oil supply chain

Responsible and fair procurement also plays an important role in contract chemical manufacturing. Ursa-Chemie GmbH has therefore been certified to the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) standard since 2017. Our certification is based on the Mass Balance (MB) model.

As part of this year’s surveillance audit, our certified management system was reviewed once again. We are thus continuing along the path we set out on with our initial RSPO certification in 2017. We had already successfully completed the recertification process last year.

What is the RSPO?

The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a voluntary, global membership organisation that brings together various stakeholders across the palm oil supply chain. Together, they develop and implement standards that promote more sustainable production and sourcing of palm oil.

The RSPO standards set out specific objectives, requirements and guidelines for the production and sourcing of RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil (Certified Sustainable Palm Oil, CSPO). In doing so, they take into account the interests of various sectors of the palm oil industry and other stakeholders.

Further information on the RSPO standards can be found on the RSPO website.

RSPO Mass Balance – what does that mean?

Ursa-Chemie is certified under the RSPO Mass Balance (MB) model. The mass balance model allows certified and non-certified palm oil to be physically blended within the supply chain.

Seamless volume control is crucial here: the volume of RSPO-certified palm oil introduced into the supply chain must correspond to the volume that is resold or allocated for accounting purposes within the certified system as RSPO MB.

The model thus combines the practical management of existing supply chains with the promotion of demand for sustainably produced palm oil.

Regular review of our certification

The recent compliance audit once again verified whether the requirements of the RSPO standard are being met within our organisation and whether the relevant processes are being implemented in a transparent manner.

For us, regular audits are more than just a formal requirement: they are an important part of our management system.

Since we were first certified in 2017, we have consistently been committed to responsible sourcing of palm oil-based raw materials.

RSPO certification complements our other certifications and underlines our commitment to acting responsibly in our procurement and production processes as well.
