At the start of 2026, we at Ursa-Chemie GmbH look back on a special highlight from last year: our factory visit to BASF in Ludwigshafen – one of the largest contiguous chemical sites in the world. For our trainees, trainers, management and interested colleagues, this excursion offered a rare opportunity to experience a global corporation up close.
A team on tour
Early in the morning, our trainees, three trainers, a representative of the management and two colleagues set off for Ludwigshafen by bus. The mood was expectant, curious – and a little bit impressed by what lay ahead of us.
Introduction at the visitor centre: BASF in everyday life
Our first stop was the BASF Visitor Centre, where we were welcomed by an expert guide. Here, we gained a comprehensive insight into the many areas in which BASF is involved in everyday life – from high-performance materials to innovative solutions for numerous industries. We also learned more about the areas in which BASF invests worldwide and how the company approaches issues such as sustainability, energy and future technologies.
At the end of the tour, we took our first group photo – a wonderful moment that captured everyone’s enthusiasm.
Tour of the plant – chemistry on an impressive scale
Afterwards, we boarded the bus for a tour of the BASF factory premises. Anyone who had only seen the site from the outside before would have been amazed: production facilities, pipelines, infrastructure, energy supply – everything on an impressive scale. We were constantly reminded of the size, complexity and logistics of this location.
Our contact person explained which raw materials and energies are needed, how production processes interact and the importance of the site within BASF’s global network.
Joint closing event at the BASF Feierabendhaus
To conclude, we stopped at the Mahlzeit restaurant in the BASF Feierabendhaus. We reflected on our impressions over a delicious meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Here, too, more photos were taken, reflecting the relaxed mood and the successful conclusion to the day.
A day full of insights
The visit to BASF was inspiring and informative for all of us. It was particularly exciting for our trainees to see how a global chemical company of this size operates – and how diverse and complex the tasks in such a plant are.
With many new impressions and even greater enthusiasm for chemistry, it was finally time to return to Montabaur.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to BASF for the exciting factory tour and the insights into one of the most impressive chemical plants in the world!
